January 25 Holiday

January 25 (Monday) is a national holiday to commemorate Police Day and is the anniversary of Egypt’s 2011 Revolution.   In the past, violent disturbances have occurred on this holiday and the days immediately preceding it; the possibility that similar incidents will occur this year cannot be excluded. The Government of Egypt has deployed additional security forces, including military personnel, throughout the country as a precaution.

U.S. citizens in Egypt should elevate their security awareness, avoid large crowds and demonstrations, and exercise good judgment about their personal safety in anticipation of the January 25 holiday.
