In the past two months, the U.S. Embassy has seen an increase in the number of U.S. citizens, both short term visitors and long term residents, deported from or denied entry to Egypt for failure to comply with Egyptian immigration law. The Embassy encourages U.S. citizens to remain in compliance with Egyptian immigration law at all times and to ensure that their visa status corresponds to the actual purpose of stay. Information about Egyptian visa requirements is available in the State Department’s Country Specific Information about Egypt; more detailed information about visa and residency requirements may be obtained from the Ministry of Interior’s Passport, Emigration, and Nationality Administration at http://www.moiegypt.gov.eg/English/Departments%20Sites/Immegration/ForignersServices/Visa/, or by consulting the Immigration Department located in each governorate.
