January 10, 2019The below is attributable to Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino:‎Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi today in Cairo. The Secretary reiterated the United States’ commitment to the strategic partnership with Egypt and in its fight against our common security threats, including terrorism and the Iranian regime’s malign influence. The Secretary thanked President Sisi for his leadership in advancing religious tolerance, including by promoting the equality of all Egyptians. The Secretary also emphasized the importance of the protection of human rights and the vital role civil society plays in giving a voice to all citizens to help address their countries’ challenges.
