Security Message to U.S. Citizens

This message follows up on the security message distributed on December 6. The Embassy has become aware of calls for demonstrations and protests over the coming days, some of which have the potential to become violent. The Embassy advises U.S. citizens to avoid areas of demonstrations, and to exercise caution in the vicinity of large gatherings, protests or demonstrations.

The Embassy also reminds U.S. citizens of the need for caution and awareness of personal security: Please review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news for updates. Maintain a high level of vigilance, take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security, and follow the instructions of local authorities.

The Embassy has advised non-essential personnel to limit their presence at the U.S. Embassy in Garden City after business hours, including over the weekend. U.S. citizens who need after hours emergency services should call the embassy switchboard (+202) 2797-3300. The Embassy is continuing to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
