The United States Provides 1.8 Million Additional Doses of Pfizer Coronavirus Vaccine to EgyptU.S. Coronavirus Vaccine Donation to Egypt Totals More Than 21 Million Doses
Cairo – The U.S. Embassy in Cairo announces a new delivery of 1.8 million doses of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine as part of the U.S. Government’s global efforts to fight the pandemic. The vaccines arrived in Cairo on Saturday, January 22, and were transferred to the Ministry of Health and Population, where they are safely stored at -80 degrees Celsius in special freezers supplied by UNICEF. To date, the United States has provided over 21 million doses of high-quality vaccines to help protect Egyptians from coronavirus.
The United States and Egypt have been working side-by-side since the start of the pandemic to curb the spread of the virus. Ambassador Jonathan R. Cohen stated that, “From the outset of this pandemic the United States and Egypt have been partners in protecting our people from this dangerous virus. Egypt demonstrated remarkable generosity, donating medical equipment to the United States, and I want again to thank President Sisi and the people of Egypt for that. The United States, for its part, continues to provide vaccines to Egypt, with over 21 million doses donated so far.” The U.S. government fully supports the Government of Egypt’s vaccination efforts and encourages everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated.
The United States’ and Egypt’s wide-ranging cooperation in fighting the pandemic is working to benefit all Egyptians. In addition to the vaccines, the U.S. Government, through USAID, has provided more than $55 million to support Egypt’s coronavirus response, reaching nearly 18 million people with assistance. USAID programs train healthcare workers, help deliver vaccines to the Egyptian people, improve tracking and response to the pandemic, and boost small businesses. This support builds on the more than $1 billion [15.7 billion EGP] the United States has invested in Egypt over the past 40 years to improve the health of the Egyptian people.
