COVID-19 Information

COVID-19 in Egypt:

As of the evening of June 2, there were 27536 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 1052 deaths in Egypt. Egypt is implementing 14-day quarantine periods and other preventative measures in all cases.

Curfew and Other Measures:

All of the curfew and other precautionary measures announced by the Government of Egypt starting on March 25 remain in effect. Details of those measures are here: https://eg.usembassy.gov/alert-curfew-changes-in-egypt-update/.
Starting on Saturday, May 30, the curfew hours will be from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m..

Current Departure Flight Options:

The U.S. Embassy in Cairo has learned that direct flights are available Friday, May 29; Monday, June 1; and Wednesday, June 3 from Cairo to Frankfurt, Germany, on Lufthansa (flight LH 583). For more information please refer to our Alert: FLIGHTS AVAILABLE FROM CAIRO TO FRANKFURT, GERMANY.

The U.S. Embassy in Cairo also has learned that directs flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) are available from Air France.  The flights (AF0567) reportedly depart once per week on Saturdays, starting Saturday, June 6.  U.S. citizens can book these flights directly on the Air France website (https://www.airfrance.com.eg/). Any U.S. citizens taking the flight should consider Egyptian curfew hours as you plan your arrival to the Cairo airport.

The Embassy continues to work with the Egyptian government and foreign Embassy partners to identify or arrange options for U.S. citizens who wish to depart Egypt.

Consular Services:

In response to significant worldwide challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of State has temporarily suspended routine visa services at all U.S. Embassies and Consulates. Embassies and consulates have canceled all routine immigrant and nonimmigrant visa appointments as of March 20, 2020, but will continue to provide emergency and mission-critical visa services as resources and local conditions allow. We will resume routine visa services as soon as possible but are unable to provide a specific date at this time. All American citizens in Egypt are strongly encouraged to enroll in the STEP program. The STEP program will allow you to receive regular updates by e-mail from the U.S. Embassy concerning upcoming flights, travel policy, and other important information.

If you are an American citizen or Green Card holder currently in Egypt, and you would like to return to the U.S. – we ask that you complete this short Online Form. Completing this Form will help the Embassy to better assist our citizens and Legal Permanent Residents in returning to the U.S.

All routine consular services for American citizens, including routine notarial and passport services, are also suspended. We do not have an estimate as to when any routine consular services will resume.
