Social Security Inquiries:
If you reside in Egypt and have questions regarding services provided by the Social Security Administration (SSA), you must contact the SSA Federal Benefits Unit (FBU) located in Naples, Italy.

If you are already receiving SSA benefits payments, there will be no change in the method of distribution of those payments.
Please note: The only bank in Egypt that handles Social Security benefits is Al Ahly El Kuwaity bank.
Applying for a Social Security Number:
U.S. citizens over the age of 12 applying for the first time for a social security number must email the American Citizenship Services Unit at ConsularCairoACS@state.gov to set up an appointment to apply for a social security number.
If, after reviewing the resources above, you still have a social security-related question, please email the ACS section at ConsularCairoACS@state.gov. The ACS Unit will not answer phone calls related to social security questions.
Please note: American citizens applying for a passport who have a social security number must provide their social security number on their passport application.
Please note: If you your bank account was frozen because you do not currently have a Social Security number, the Embassy can issue a “To Whom It May Concern” letter stating that your Social Security application is in process. The letter fee is $50. Please schedule a notary service appointment to get this letter.
